2. 작가노트
Crushed Stone Inlay는 보석의 작은 조각과 가루를 모아 금속에 수지를 사용하여 상감하는 기법을 말한다.
이번 전시에서는 청금석을 장식적인 요소로 사용한 숟가락과 더불어 같은 기법의 표면범위를 넓혀 기물을 만들어 보았다. 전통적으로 장식적이었던 이 기법을 장식적인 용도뿐만 아니라 기물의 일부가 되는 형태로 적용하여 다양한 색의 유색 보석을 새로운 방식으로 금속과 접목시켰다.
거친 형태의 천연석의 덩어리를 작게 부수고, 다시 넓고 매끈한 표면으로 만드는 과정을 통해서 금속과 보석의 다양한 색을 시각적이면서 조형적인 요소로 금속 작업에 응용하였다.
